After playing in the Irene-Wakonda tournament, the Alcester-Hudson Cubs volleyball team had two road matches. They traveled to Sioux Falls Lutheran on Tuesday, September 10th and then traveled to Avon on Thursday, September 12th. The Cubs lost both matches in straight sets.
Against the Eagles, Alcester-Hudson lost by set scores of 25-20, 25-22, and 25-20. Emily Winquist finished with five kills, 14 digs, and two blocks. Delta Pies had four kills, three digs, and three blocks. Emma Moller had 11 digs and 6.5 blocks. Jaeley Christensen finished with 15 digs, 11 set assists, two ace serves, and two blocks. Baylee Klaschen had 14 digs and two ace serves. Emma Solberg added three kills and four digs.
On Thursday against the Pirates, the Cubs started the first sets with a 3-3 tie with Avon. The Pirates went ahead by two points, 10-8. While still leading by two points, 15-13, the Pirates went ahead 17-13. The Cubs got within two points, 22-20, but Avon won the first set 25-20. Avon started the second set on a 4-0 run and never trailed. They increased the lead to 16-7 before winning 25-15. The Pirates again started quickly in the third set and led 6-1. They increased the lead to 19-8. Alcester-Hudson cut into the lead, but it was too late as Avon held for a 25-19 win.
Moller had a team-high seven kills. Devin Hongslo had six kills and three blocks. Solberg and Heidi Swanson both had six blocks, one dig, and one set assist each. Jenna Manning had nine digs. Christensen finished with eight set assists, five digs, and 1.5 blocks. Winquist added seven digs, two kills, and two set assists.
