Quick Start Helps Dell Rapids St Mary to Win over Cub Girls

The Alcester-Hudson Cub girls basketball team suffered a road loss to the Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals on Thursday, January 25th.  The Cardinals started the game on fire which helped them to a 71-51 win.

St Mary scored 26 points in the first quarter and held the Cubs to just seven.  That difference was too big of a deficit to make up the remainder of the game.  Alcester-Hudson trailed St Mary 41-20 at halftime.  The Cubs made a little run early in the third quarter to cut the lead to 12 points, but the Cardinals responded and ended the quarter with a 56-33 advantage.

Alcester-Hudson shot 40% (17-42) overall, 50% (6-12) from three-point area, and 73% (11-15) from the free-throw line.  St Mary finished the game shooting 41% (25-61) overall, 52% (11-21) from three-point area, and 71% (10-14) from the free-throw line.  The big stat of the game was the Cubs 23 turnovers compared to St Mary’s seven.

Elly Doering finished with 11 points, 12 rebounds, and two assists.  Emily Winquist added nine points and three rebounds.  Devin Hongslo had eight points and two rebounds.  Alexis Gray ended with seven points and three rebounds.  Jenna Manning had six points, three rebounds, and two assists.
