Alcester-Hudson Boys Drop Season Opener

The Alcester-Hudson Cub boys basketball team opened their 2023-2024 season on the road against Gayville-Volin on Thursday, December 7th.  The Raiders built a 14-point lead in the first quarter and held for a 58-46 victory.

Gayville-Volin outscored the Cubs 18-4 in the quarter.  The two teams each scored 13 points in the second quarter, and the Raiders led 31-17 at halftime.  The Cubs were only able to cut into the lead by a point in the third quarter, and they trailed 45-32 going into the fourth quarter.  Alcester-Hudson made a run and cut the lead to 48-42 with 3:34 to play, but the Raiders outscored the Cubs 10-4 the remainder of the game for the win.

The Cubs shot 31% (16-51) from the field overall, 23% (3-13) from three-point area, and 55% (11-20) from the free-throw line.  The Raiders were 41% (19-46) from the field, 38% (8-21) from three-point area, and 67% (12-18) from the free-throw line.

Dominic Van Egdom finished with 17 points and 13 rebounds.  Mateo Kleinhans had eight points and three rebounds.  Evan Haak also had eight points.  Ethan Bovill added seven points and five rebounds.
