Alcester-Hudson Boys Rally for Region 4B Win

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs rallied from a 17-point deficit to earn a 54-50 win over the Avon Pirates in the opening round of the Region 4B tournament in Alcester on Monday, March 3rd.

The Pirates opened the game with an 8-2 run in the first four minutes.  They were able to push the lead to 18-11 by the end of the first quarter.  Avon kept rolling and built a game-high 17-point lead, 31-14, with 3:30 to play in the first half.  The Cubs finished the second quarter on an 8-0 run to cut the lead to 31-22 at halftime.

Alcester-Hudson kept their rally going in the second half.  They eventually tied the game 36-36 with 1:25 to play in the third quarter.  The Cubs were able to take a 40-39 lead into the fourth quarter.  Alcester-Hudson was feeling the momentum.  They scored nine points in a little over a minute to start the fourth quarter to extend their lead to 49-39.  Avon was able to bounce back and get within a point, 51-50, with 1:35 left in the game.  The Cubs, however, held strong and made enough free throws down the stretch for the win.

Evan Brown finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.  Brody Andrews had 10 points and four steals.  Evan Haak added nine points.  Ethan Bovill had seven points, six rebounds, five assists, and three steals.  Jose Topete-Lopez ended with five points and nine rebounds.  Tommy Walth also had five points with six rebounds.  Jacob Cole added five points and four rebounds.
