Furious Second Half Rally Gives Cubs Win over Bearcats

The Alcester-Hudson Cub boys erased a 20-point deficit and defeated the Freeman Academy/Marion Bearcats 75-73 on Tuesday, February 18th.

After the first quarter ended in a 17-17 tie, the Bearcats had a big second quarter.  They took a 29-20 lead early in the quarter and then ended the first half leading 42-24.  Freeman Academy/Marion scored the first two points of the third quarter for a 44-24 lead.  The Cubs were able to cut the lead in half by the end of the third quarter, 58-48.

Alcester-Hudson kept chipping away at the lead and eventually tied the game 68-68.  The score was tied again 72-72 after a basket by the Bearcats.  Freeman Academy/Marion was fouled on the made basket and also made the free-throw to go ahead 73-72.  Ethan Bovill made a lay-up after a Cub timeout to put Alcester-Hudson in front 74-73.  Evan Haak added a free-throw in the closing seconds in the win.

Haak finished with 27 points and three rebounds.  Bovill added 16 points, seven rebounds, and three assists.  Jacob Cole ended with 15 points and eight rebounds.  Evan Brown had eight points and six rebounds.  Jose Topete-Lopez had five points, six rebounds, and four assists.
