Alcester-Hudson Volleyball Advances to SoDak 16

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs volleyball team advanced to the SoDak 16 after a Region 4B semifinal win over the Centerville Tornadoes on Thursday, November 2nd.  The Cubs won an exciting five-match set by scores of 25-19, 21-25, 22-25, 25-19, and 15-8.

Alcester-Hudson took an early 4-1 lead to start the first set.  They slowly built that lead to 13-7, but the Tornadoes went on a 7-0 run to take a 14-13 lead.  The Cubs responded with a 5-1 run to regain the lead 18-15.  That run kept them in front the rest of the set to the 25-19 win.  Centerville started the second set with a 5-3 lead and pushed it to six points, 12-6.  The Cubs pulled within a point, 14-13, but a 6-3 run by Centerville put the Tornadoes in front 20-16.  That little spurt kept them in front by three-to-four points the rest of the set, and they evened the match with a 25-21 win.

Alcester-Hudson started the third set like the first, with a 4-1 lead.  The Tornadoes eventually tied the score 8-8 . The two teams traded points back and forth, and the score was tied at 12-12 and 17-17.  Centerville then took a slim 20-19 advantage and took that to a 25-22 win.  The Tornadoes jumped out to an early 5-1 lead in the fourth set.  After trailing 7-2, the Cubs went on an 8-3 run to tie the score 10-10.  They continued to ride the momentum to a 14-10 lead.  That four point lead was enough to keep them in front the rest of the set.  They stayed in front of Centerville to a 25-19 win to even the match.

The Cubs got out to a quick 4-2 lead in the fifth set.  They were able to extend that lead to 11-6 which was enough space to keep them in front.  Alcester-Hudson finished the match with a 4-1 run for the 15-7 win.

Alexis Gray had 35 digs and 16 kills.  Hannah Ahart finished with 38 set assists, 21 digs, five ace serves, and two kills.  Jenna Manning had 39 digs, Jaeley Christensen had 28 digs, and Baylee Klaschen added 26 digs.  Carley Patrick finished with 13 kills, eight digs, and two blocks.  Elly Doering also had 13 kills along with six digs.

The Cubs will play Colman-Egan in the SoDak 16 on Tuesday, November 7th.
