The Alcester-Hudson Cubs hosted the Irene-Wakonda Eagles in the Region 4B quarterfinals on Tuesday, October 31st. The Cubs won in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-15, and 25-15. They went on significant runs in each of the sets in the victory.
After an early 2-2 tie to start the first set, the Cubs went ahead 6-4. They extended the lead to 11-6 and then went on a 6-1 run for a 17-1 advantage. The Cubs cruised from there to a 25-13 win.
The second set also started with a tie, this time 3-3. The Eagles when ahead 6-4, but Alcester-Hudson tied the score 7-7. Irene-Wakonda again went ahead, this time by three points, 11-8. The Cubs responded to tie the set 12-12. Alcester-Hudson then went on an 11-3 run for a 23-15 lead before winning 25-15. The Cubs started the third set with a 5-2 lead. They slowly built a 15-10 advantage before finishing the match with a 10-5 run for the 25-15 victory.
Carly Patrick finished with seven kills and nine digs. Emma Moller had six kills, five digs, and two ace serves. Elly Doering had five kills, seven digs, three blocks, and a set assist. Devin Hongslo added five kills and three set assists. Hannah Ahart finished with 27 set assists, eight digs, five ace serves, and four kills. Jenna Manning had 23 digs. Alexis Gray tallied 15 digs, three kills, two blocks, and a set assist. Baylee Klaschen and Jaeley Christensen both had 11 digs each.
The Cubs will host #4 Centerville in the Region 4B semifinals on Thursday, November 2nd at 6:30 p.m.
