Cubs Volleyball Ends Regular Season with Win

The Alcester-Hudson Cubs volleyball team finished their regular season on the road at Freeman on Tuesday, October 24th.  The Cubs won the match in four sets by scores of 25-15, 25-12, 24-26, and 25-21.

The first set went back and fourth through the first half.  The score was tied 4-4, 8-8, and 13-13.  Alcester-Hudson went on an 8-2 run for a 21-15 lead.  The Cubs then scored the next four points for the 25-15 win.  Alcester-Hudson went on a 5-0 run to start the second set.  They maintained a the five-point lead to a 10-5 score before slowly extended the lead to 21-11.  The Cubs took the second set 25-12.

The third set started with a 3-3 tie.  The Flyers scored the next five points for a 5-3 lead, but the Cubs went on an 8-0 run for an 11-5 lead.  Freeman fought back to eventually tie the score 20-20.  The two teams went back and fourth to ties of 21-21, 22-22, 23-23, and 24-24.  Freemen took the advantage 25-24 and then scored the next point for the 26-24 victory.  The Cubs shook off the third set and jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the fourth set.  The lead grew to eight points, 10-2, but Freeman chipped away at the deficit and tied the score 19-19.  Alcester-Hudson, however, responded with a 4-1 run for a 23-20 lead and took the set 25-21.

Alexis Gray hadd 28 digs, five kills, and an ace serve.  Emma Moller had 14 kills and eight digs.  Elly Doering had 13 kills and three digs.  Carly Patrick added eight digs, five blocks, and three digs.  Hannah Ahart had 31 set assists, 20 digs, and four ace serves.  Devin Hongslo added seven digs and six set assists.

The Cubs enter the Region 4B tournament as the #1 seed.  They will host the winner of Irene-Wakonda and Freeman Academy/Marion on Tuesday, October 31st at 6:30 p.m.
