The Alcester-Hudson Cubs hosted the Garretson Blue Dragons in volleyball action on Tuesday, September 26th. The Blue Dragons won a close match in four sets by scores of 28-26, 22-25, 25-20, and 25-23.
The first set seemed to set the tone for the entire match. The score was tied 5-5 and then again 11-11. The Cubs were able to get a little separation late with a score of 20-17. Alcester-Hudson still led 22-21 and 24-23 before Garretson tied the score 25-25. The Blue Dragons scored the final two points after a 26-26 tie. The Cubs opened second set with a 5-1 run. They pushed the lead to 14-6. The Blue Dragons slowly chipped away at the lead, but the deficit was too big. The Cubs won the set 25-22.
The third set started with a 4-4 tie. Garretson took a small lead at 10-8, but turned it into a 15-9 advantage moments later. Alcester-Hudson pulled with four points a couple of times at 17-13 and 23-19, but Garretson finished with the 25-20 win. The Blue Dragons started the fourth set on a 7-3 run. They continued to lead by three or four points until about the midpoint of the set. The Cubs tied the score 16-16. Garretson went back in front and led 23-19 late. The Cubs rallied to within a point, 24-23, but the Blue Dragons ended the come back and match with the final point.
Hannah Ahart finished with 27 set assists, 17 digs, and six ace serves. Carly Patrick had nine kills and 11 digs. Emma Moller also had nine kills. Elly Doering added seven kills, five digs, and a block. Alexis Gray had six kills and nine digs, and Jenna Manning finished with 20 digs.
