West Central Boys Basketball Team Drops First Two Games of Season

The West Central Trojan boys basketball team played Dak-12 foes on back-to-back nights to start the 2022-2023 season.  West Central traveled to Dell Rapids on Friday, December 9th and then hosted the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers on Saturday, December 10th.

Dell Rapids 57, West Central 44

The Trojans had a lead in the fourth quarter, but a big run by the Quarriers gave Dell Rapids the win on Friday night.  West Central had a slim 11-10 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Dell Rapids, however, took the lead in the second quarter and held a 24-20 advantage at halftime.

The Quarrier lead grew to 30-22 with 5:00 to play in the third quarter.  The Trojans went on an 8-0 run over the next two minutes and tied the game 30-30.  The rest of the third quarter was close, and Dell Rapids held a 38-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter.  West Central took the lead 39-38 early in the fourth quarter and led 42-40 with 6:00 to play.  Dell Rapids, however, ended the game on a 17-2 run for the 57-44 win.

The Trojans shot 38% (15-39) overall, 33% (7-21) from three-point area, and 44% (7-16) from the free-throw line.  Dell Rapids finished the game 43% (22-51) from the field, just 2-16 from three-point area, and 73% (11-15) from the free-throw line.

Erik Seten finished with 13 points and three rebounds.  Brodie Herr had 11 points and five rebounds.  Dylan Stromer added eight points, four rebounds, and four assists.  Carter Tetzlaff ended with six points.

Sioux Falls Christian 61, West Central 33

The Trojans then hosted the Sioux Falls Christian Chargers the next night.  West Central jumped out to a 7-2 lead in the first three and a half minutes of the game.  West Central ended the first quarter leading 12-11.  The Chargers eventually tied the game, and then took the lead 15-14, on two made free-throws with 4:54 to play in the second quarter.  From that point forward, Sioux Falls Christian dominated the game.  The Chargers finished the first half leading 29-16 and then outscored the Trojans 32-17 in the second half.

West Central shot 34% (13-38) from the field, 3-15 from three-point area, and 4-7 from the free-throw line.  The Chargers were 50% (22-44) from the field, 43% (6-14) from three-point area, and 79% (11-14) from the free-throw line.  The Chargers also forced 22 Trojan turnovers.

Trevin Price had eight points.  Crew Heier finished with six points and eight rebounds.  Seten and Tetzlaff both had five points each.  Herr ended the game with five rebounds and two steals.
