Wood Ducks Headed to State Tournament

The Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks are state tournament bound after an 8-6 win over the Flandreau Cardinals in the District 4B Tournament on Thursday, July 30th.

The Wood Ducks took an early lead in the bottom of the first on a two-run single by Curtis Flint.  They extended their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second.  Brodie Herr and Jearl Jesson each had a bases-loaded walk.  Chad Hunt scored on a double play for the 5-0 score.

Flandreau tied the game, 5-5, with five runs in the top of the third.  The Wood Ducks went back in front, 6-5, on an RBI single by CJ DenBoer.  The Cardinals tied the game, 6-6, with a run in the top of the eighth.  Jesson broke the tie for good with a two-run home run to left field in the bottom of the eighth.

Flint had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs.  Herr and DenBoer each had two hits with an RBI.  Jesson had a home run and three RBIs.  Hunt, Keaton Vessells, and Brayden. Oodegaard all had one hit each.

Vessells pitched four innings and allowed five runs, one earned,  on. three hits and five walks with seven strikeouts.  Ben Honkomp tossed 3 2/3 innings and allowed an earned run on. a hit and three walks with six strikeouts.  Flint pitched 1 1/3 innings and had a walk with three strikeouts.
