The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks punched their ticket to the state tournament with a 3-2 win over the Salem Cubs in the District 4B Tournament on Thursday, July 30th.
Salem put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning. Broc Haldeman had an RBI single in the bottom of the first to make the score 2-1. Joe Hanisch tied the game after drawing a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the third. Kyle Konechne broke the 2-2 tie with a home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth that proved to be the game-winning run.
Haldeman had two hits and an RBI. Cam Quigley and Caden Alfson both had two singles each. Konechne had a home run and an RBI. Hanisch also had a hit and an RBI. Devon Garry added a double, and Hunter DenBoer had a single. Blake Svoboda pitched nine innings and allowed two earned runs on two hits and three walks while recording 17 strikeouts.
