Wood Ducks Hold off Salem for Another Cornbelt Win

The Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks earned another Cornbelt League win after holding off the Salem Cubs 8-6 at home on Tuesday, June 30th.

Salem scored the first four runs of the game.  They scored three times in the top of the first and one more in the top of the second.  Ben Honkomp put the Wood Ducks on the board with an RBI single in the bottom of the second.  The Wood Ducks would then rally for five runs in the bottom of the third to take a 6-4 lead.  Loren Jacobson, Curtis Flint, Brayden Odegaard, Brodie Herr, and CJ Den Boer all drove home runs in the inning.

After a scoreless fourth inning, the Cubs scored two times in the top of the fifth to tie the game 6-6.  Flint hit a solo home run to lead off the bottom of the fifth to put the Wood Ducks back in the lead, 7-6.  He homered again in the bottom of the seventh for an insurance run.

Flint had two hits, both home runs, and three RBIs.  Odegaard had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Camden McDonald also had two singles.  Jacobson, Herr, and Honkomp all had a hit and RBI each.  Jacob Ellens and Keaton Vessells both had one hit.  Den Boer added an RBI.
