Clark Area Rallies in Seventh, Season Ends in State Tournament for West Central Baseball

The West Central high school baseball team had their season come to an end in the opening round of the State B Tournament in Brookings on Monday, May 25th.  Clark Area rallied for three runs in the top of the seventh to steal a 4-2 win.

Beckett Everson drove home the first run with a ground out in the bottom of the first to put West Central ahead 1-0.  Everson brought home another run with a single in the bottom of the third making the score 2-0.  Clark Area got a run in the top of the fourth in a wild pitch to cut the lead to 2-1.  The score remained 2-1 until the top of the seventh.  A single with two on and two out for Clark Area tied the game 2-2.  With runners now on second and third, another single to center field brought home to more runs to put Clark Area ahead 4-2.  West Central, unfortunately, went down in order in the bottom of the seventh.

Everson finished with a single and two RBIs.  Hayden Whiting had a triple.  Zach Lorang added a single.  Taten Van Overbeke pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed an earned run on three hits and four walks with two strikeouts.  Gunnar Alfson tossed 2 1/3 innings and allowed a walk with two strikeouts.  CJ Den Boer threw one inning and allowed three earned runs on three hits and a walk with one strikeout.

West Central finishes the season with a 15-2 overall record.
