Big Fifth Inning Leads West Central Baseball to Win over Dell Rapids

The West Central high school baseball team used a big fifth inning to help them to an 11-6 win over Dell Rapids at home on Saturday, May 9th.

Nick Lorang had an RBI sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first for an early 1-0 lead.  CJ Den Boer drew a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the fourth to make the score 2-0.  Dell Rapids rallied for five runs in the top of the fifth to take a 5-2 lead.

West Central then put together their big rally.  Lorang had an RBI single.  Eli Koehn tied the game, 5-5, with a two-run single.  CJ Den Boer also had a two-run single to take the lead back 7-5.  Beckett Everson followed with three-run home run.  JT Steckley added an RBI double for an 11-5 advantage.  Dell Rapids got one more run in the top of the sixth.

Everson had two hits, one a home run, and three RBIs.  Steckley added two hits, including a double, and an RBI.  Koehn also had two hits and an RBI.  Den Boer ended with a single and three RBIs.  Lorang had a hit and two RBIs.  Zach Lorang and Hayden Whiting each had one hit.

Everson pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed five earned runs on three hits and six walks with seven strikeouts.  Koehn tossed 1 2/3 innings and allowed an unearned run on two hits and two walks with a strikeout.  Den Boer pitched 2/3 of an inning and struck out one batter.
