Heier Heats Up Late, Hits Game Winner for Trojans in Vermillion

Hayden Heier knocked down several three-point shots in the fourth quarter, including a game-winning three-pointer from the left win as time expired to help the West Central Trojans to a 64-62 win over the Vermillion Tanagers on Tuesday, December 17th.

The first quarter went back and forth with each team holding a lead.  Vermillion finished the quarter with a 14-12 advantage.  The Tanagers were able to maintain the lead in the second quarter and led 35-32 going into halftime.  Vermillion started the third quarter on an 8-2 run to extend their lead to 43-34 with 6:25 left in the quarter.  West Central was able to get within eight points, 50-42, by the end of the third quarter.

Vermillion seemed like they were headed towards a victory.  The Tanagers extended their lead to 59-44 with 6:00 to play.  That’s when Heier, and the Trojans, started to heat up.  Heier hit multiple three-point shots from the left corner throughout the quarter to help the team overcome the deficit.

Heier finished with 20 points and four rebounds.  Connor Mebius had 22 points and four rebounds.  Kolte Garry added nine points and five rebounds.  Luke Knight finished with five points and five rebounds.
