Wood Ducks Win Second Round Game at State

The Humboldt/Hartford Wood Ducks kept their place in the 2024 South Dakota State B Amateur Baseball Tournament by defeating the Elk Point Colt .45s by a score of 8-5 on Monday, August 12th.

The Wood Ducks built an early lead, but then used a big sixth inning to lift them to the win.  Humboldt/Hartford scored a single run in each of the first three innings for a 3-0 lead.  Elk Point scored two times in the top of the fifth and then two more in the sixth to take a brief 4-3 lead.  The Wood Ducks responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth to go back in front 8-4.  Elk Point got one more run in the top of the eighth.

Brayden Odegaard had a double and single.  Rayce Whiting had a double with two RBIs.  Braden Herr, Logan Larsen, and Brodie Herr all had a single and an RBI each.  Nathan Adrian alsoo had a single.  Derek Renken pitched 4 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on three hits and four walks with five strikeouts.  CJ DenBoer threw 4 1/3 innings and allowed three runs, one earned, on seven hits with four strikeouts.
