Madison Broncos Pull Away Late in Win over Wood Ducks

The Madison Broncos scored 10 runs later in the game to pull away for a 12-4 win over the Hartford/Humboldt Wood Ducks in Madison on Sunday, June 14th.

Madison grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning.  Ben Honkomp grounded into a fielder’s choice that scored a run in the top of the second to tie the game 1-1.  Brodie Herr gave the Wood Ducks a 2-1 lead with a solo home run to start the third inning.  The Broncos tied the game with a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the third.  Logan Larsen blasted a two-run home run to left field in the top of the fifth to put the Wood Ducks ahead 4-2.  Madison, however, scored five runs in the bottom of the fifth and another five runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 12-4 lead.  They would hold the Wood Ducks the rest of the game for the win.

Braden Herr and Drew Eldeen each had two singles.  Larsen had a home run and two RBIs.  Br. Herr had a home run and an RBI.  CJ DenBoer had a single, and Honkomp finished with an RBI.  Honkomp pitched 4 2/3 inning and allowed five runs, four earned, on two hits and three walks with eight strikeouts.  Clint DenBoer tossed two innings and allowed two hits.
