West Central Baseball Wins First Game of Season

The West Central high school baseball team won their first game of the season on Friday, April 10th.  A four-run inning helped them to a 5-2 win over Hanson/Brdgewater-Emery.

Neither team was able to get on the scoreboard through the first four innings of the game.  JT Steckley delivered an RBI double in the top of the fifth to put West Central ahead 1-0.  Nick Lorang had an RBI single later in the inning.  Zach Lorang scored on a wild pitch, and Gunnar Alfson had an RBI sacrifice fly giving West Central a 4-0 lead.

Hanson/Bridgewater-Emery cut the lead in half, 4-2, with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Steckley added another RBI in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 5-2.  Hanson/Bridgewater-Emery loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but CJ Den Boer got a strikeout to end the game.

Den Boer had two hits.  Steckley had a double and two RBIs.  Alfson and N. Lorang each had a hit and an RBI.  Beckett Everson and Hayden Whiting both had a double each.  Z. Lorang had one hit.  Alfson pitched four innings and allowed a hit and four walks with 11 strikeouts.  Everson pitched 2/3 of an innnig and allowed two earned runs on a hit and three walks with a strikeout.  Den Boer threw 2 1/3 innings and gave up two hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
