West Central Volleyball Wins Three Straight

After falling in a match to the top-ranked Dell Rapids Quarriers, the West Central Trojans volleyball team has won three straight matches.  They earned wins over Tea Area, Madison, and Elk Point-Jefferson.

West Central 3, Tea Area 0

The Trojans took a straight-set win over the Titans by scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-17 on September 2nd.  Each team held leads in the opening set.  Tea started with a 4-2 advantage.  The Trojans tied the score 6-6.  The score was tied 13-13 and 17-17 in back-and-forth action.  West Central went on a 3-0 run to take a 20-17 lead only to see the Titans tie the score 20-20.  The Trojans went on a 5-1 run to take the first set.  That momentum carried over into the second set.

They got out to a 6-3 lead and extended it to scores of 13-6 and 20-13 on their way to the 25-14 win.  After an early 2-2 tie to start the third set, West Central took a 7-4 lead and continued to lead 11-9.  They went on a 5-1 run to extend the lead to 16-10 and continued to roll to a 20-11 score.  Tea was only able to get within seven points before falling 25-17.

West Central 3, Madison 2

The Trojans hit the road and took on the Madison Bulldogs on September 4th.  The Trojans had to dig out of a hole, but won three straight sets to win the match.  The Bulldogs won the opening set 25-23 and then took the second set 25-17 for a 2-0 lead.  West Central rallied in the third set and won in extra time 28-26 to keep the match going.  The Trojans would take the fourth set 25-20 to force a fourth set.  The momentum for the Trojans carried into the fifth set as they won 15-16 to get the come-from-behind win.

Ella Harden finished with 29 kills.  Madi Ingalls had 26 kills along with 12 digs.  Ellie Knight led the team with 14 digs.  Cambree Ideker finished with 48 set assists.  Sofia Gross had eight blocks, and Izzy Mckinney had two blocks.

West Central 3, Elk Point-Jefferson 0

The Trojans returned home to face the Elk Point-Jefferson Huskies on September 9th.  The opening set started with a 3-3 tie.  The Trojans went on a 5-2 spurt for an 8-5 lead.  They slowly grew that lead to 18-11.  The Huskies could not get any closer as West Central took the first set 25-16.

Elk Point-Jefferson broke a 2-2 tie in the second set with a 7-1 run to go ahead 9-3.  They continued to lead 15-8, but the Trojans then made a run.  West Central went on an 8-1 run to tie the score 16-16.  The Trojans rode the momentum to a 19-17 lead.  They finished the second set on 6-3 run for a 25-20 win.  The third set started with another tie, 3-3.  The Huskies took a slim 6-5 lead, but the Trojans scored five straight to go in front 10-6.  They held a three-to-four point lead of scores 12-9, 15-12, and 18-14.  West Central ended the match with a 7-3 run to win the third set 25-17.
