West Central Trojan Girls Track Full of Excitement for 2025

“I am very excited for our upcoming season.  We have a lot of leaders with our seniors, and we have a lot of young talent too.  The combination of those leaders, with a new and upcoming group looking to make some noise, has me really excited about this year and this program,” said head coach Janel Merkwan of the West Central Trojans girls track team.

Seniors Ellie McDonald, Aleia Smith, Mara Schulz, and Rayna Goehring will be looked upon to lead the team.  McDonald has been running mid-distance relays since she was a seventh grader.  Smith joined the Trojans last year and had a good cross country season this past year.  Schulz led the team in throws last year, and Goehring has been on sprint relays and individual events at the state meet since middle school.

Avery Pressler is a returning state placer in multiple events.  Abbi Thornton is also a returning as a state placer and finalist in both the long jump and triple jump.  Aubrey Borns has been a solid member of the distance crew and led the cross country team to their best season in years.

“I will look too the juniors and seniors for leadership in their events and at practices, and those younger athletes are very motivated and eager to learn and get better,” added Merkwan.
