West Central Rebounds with Win over Groton

The West Central Trojans rebounded and earned a spot in the consolation championship game after a 59-40 win over the Groton Tigers at the 2025 South Dakota State A Boys Basketball Tournament in Sioux Falls on Friday, March 21st.

Groton held the early advantage in the game.  The Tigers had a 12-10 lead after the opening quarter.  West Central turned the table in the second quarter.  The Trojans outscored Groton 12-5 for a 22-17 halftime lead.  West Central then exploded offensively in the third quarter, scoring 19 points.  Groton stayed closed in the quarter, and the Trojans led 41-34 going into the final quarter.  West Central’s defense locked down Groton in the final quarter, holding the Tigers to just eight points.

The Trojans shot 41.5% (22-53) overall, 25.0% (3-12) from three-point area, and 66.7% (12-18) from the free-throw line.  Groton finished the game shooting 29.2% (14-48) overall, 19.0% (4-21) from three-point area, and 72.7% (8-11) from the free-throw line.

Connor Mebius finished with 20 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Will Kuhl added 14 points, nine rebounds, and three assists.  Kolte Garry had 12 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.  Luke Knight had five points and five rebounds.
