Flandreau Cardinals Rally Past Gamecocks in District 4B

The Flandreau Cardinals rallied past the Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks 6-2 in the District 4B tournament in Canova on Thursday, August 1st.  The win put Flandreau into the state tournament.

The Gamecocks broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth.  Briggs Havlik had an RBI single to put Humboldt/Hartford in front 1-0.  The Cardinals took the lead with a four-run top of the sixth inning.  Flandreau added two more runs in the top of the ninth for a 6-1 lead.  The Gamecocks got one run in the bottom of the ninth.

Joe Hanisch had two hits with an RBI.  Cam Quigley also had two hits, one a double.  Carter Halverson also had two singles.  Havlik finished with a single and an RBI.  Blake Svoboda, Broc Haldeman, and Devon Garry all had one hit each.  Carver Hultgren pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed four runs, one earned, on four hits and five walks with four strikeouts.  Jonah Rechtenbaugh threw 3 2/3 innings and allowed two earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts.

The Gamecocks will have two more chances to win one game to qualify for state.
