Gamecocks Stay Alive in District 4B Tournament

The Humboldt/Hartford Gamecocks lost a game and won a game in the District 4B Tournament in Canova.  The Gamecocks lost to Salem to start the tournament, but earned a win over the Flandreau Blue Teal to keep their season alive.

Salem 8, Gamecocks 4

In the opening round game on Saturday, July 27th, Salem took control of the game in the middle innings to get the win.  Both teams scored a run in the first inning.  Salem grabbed the lead, 3-1, with two runs in the top of the third and then added another in the top of the fifth for a 4-1 lead.  The Gamecocks got within a run, 4-3, with two runs in the bottom of the fifth.  Salem took control with three runs in the top of the sixth to extend the lead to 7-3.  Humboldt/Hartford got a run in the bottom of the eighth, and Salem added a run in the ninth.

Cam Quigley and Devon Garry both had two hits each.  Broc Haldeman had a single and an RBI.  Adam Hentges and Loren Jacobson both had one single each.  Ryan Healy and Chad Morrison had one RBI each.  Cole Barthel pitched six innings and allowed seven earned runs on seven hits and three walks with six strikeouts.

Gamecocks 24, Flandreau Blue Teal 0

In an elimination game, the Gamecocks exploded for 24 runs on 22 hits in a game that ended after the top of the fifth inning.  They scored 16 runs alone in the bottom of the second.  Humboldt/Hartford added five more runs in the third and three in the bottom of the fourth.

Blake Svoboda had four hits and an RBI.  Garry and Healy both had three hits and two RBIs apiece.  Haldeman had two hits and four RBIs.  Quigley added two hits and two RBIs.  Carter Halverson and Jonah Rechtenbaugh both had two hits and and RBI.  Briggs Havlik added a hit and four RBIs.  Hentges had a hit and two RBIs.  Jacobson also had a hit and an RBI.  Joe Hanisch also had a single.
