Humboldt/Hartford Legion Walks off Tea for First Win of Season

The Humboldt/Hartford legion baseball team got a ninth-inning walk-off win over Tea to get their first win of the season on Wednesday, July 10th.  Keaton Vessells delivered the game-winning single for the 6-5 victory.

The game was scoreless through three innings of play.  Both teams scored a run in the fourth inning.  Humboldt/Hartford took the lead in the bottom of the sixth, 3-1, with two runs.  Tea rallied for for four runs in the top of the seventh to take the lead 5-3.  Humboldt/Hartford was able to respond with two runs in the bottom of the inning to force extra innings.

Both teams went down in order in the eighth inning.  Tea put together a little rally in the top of the ninth.  They got a two-out double followed by a walk to put two runners on base with two outs.  Humboldt/Hartford was able to get the third out to end the half inning.  Rayce Whiting reached base to start the bottom of the ninth on an error.  Brodie Herr had a ground out to move Whiting to third with one out.  Vessells then delivered the game-winning hit to left field.

Vessells finished with two hits and two RBIs.  Lando Whiting had two hits, one a double, and an RBI.  Landen Holewa also had two singles.  Cain Grocott finished with a single and two RBIs.  Herr added a single and an RBI.  Jesse Jost and Will Nester both had one hit each.  Holewa pitched 6 2/3 innings and allowed five runs, only one earned, on nine hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Jost pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed two hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
