West Central Girls Start Season with Big Win

The West Central Trojans opened their 2023-2024 girls basketball season with a big road win in Baltic on Tuesday, December 5th.  After an early 6-0 lead by Baltic, the Trojans defense shut down the Bulldogs for a 78-20 win.

Meredith Larson knocked down two three-point shots for Baltic in the first minute for an early 6-0 lead, but the Trojans outscored the Bulldogs 20-3 the rest of the quarter for a 20-9 lead at the first break.  West Central extended the lead to 47-14 at halftime.  They led 66-17 at the end of the third quarter.

West Central shot 46% (31-67) overall, 45% (14-31) from three-point area, and 2-6 from the free-throw line.  Baltic shot 19% (7-36) overall from the field, 21% (3-14) on three-point attempts, and 27% (3-11) from the free-throw line.  The Trojan defense forced 26 turnovers, 18 of those on steals.

Four players finished in double figures.  Ayla Kramer had 14 points and three rebounds.  Jazelle Jarding finished with 12 points, five rebounds, and seven steals.  Mara Schutlz also had 12 points with three rebounds and four assists.  Alexa Borns added 11 points, seven rebounds, and three steals.  Kacey Jaton had eight points, and Molly Anderson and Emillee Stofferahn both had six points each.
