Trojan Volleyball Team Hangs Tough, but Falls to Dell Rapids

The West Central Trojans played their second straight road match to start the season on Thursday, August 24th.  The Trojans traveled to Dell Rapids, and the Quarriers took the win in straight sets by scores of 25-11, 25-21, and 25-19.

West Central started the first set by scoring the first two points, but Dell Rapids grabbed the momentum early.  The Quarriers went on a 12-3 run to go ahead 12-5.  After leading 14-8, Dell Rapids finished the first set on an 11-3 run for the 25-11 win.  The Trojans jumped out quickly in the second set and built an early 9-2 lead.  Dell Rapids, however, responded and tied the match 13-13.  Their run continued until they led 17-13.  West Central tied the score 20-20 and again 21-21, but the Quarriers scored the final four points for the 25-21 win.  The third set was back-and-forth through the midway point.  The set was tied 4-4, 9-9, and again 14-14.  Dell Rapids went on a small 4-0 run to go ahead 18-14.  The Trojans got within a point, 18-17, but the Quarriers finished the match with a 7-2 run for the victory.

Kaia Gabbert finished with five kills and a solo block.  Marissa Dobbs added three kills, two ace serves, and five set assists.  Cambree Ideker also had three kills.  Jocelyn Nilson had 21 digs on the night, while Landry Heath added eight.  Ellie Lienhard finished with seven set assists.  Addison Meadors had two ace serves.
