West Central Girls Ride Third Quarter Run to Win over Cougars

The West Central Trojans (9-7) trailed for the entire first half of the game, but rallied and defeated the McCook Central/Montrose Fighting Cougars 62-47 on Tuesday, February 7th.

The Fighting Cougars had a seven-point lead, 16-9, with :45 to play in the first quarter and led 16-12 at the quarter break.  They pushed their lead to eight points a couple of times in the second quarter and led 25-17 with 1:30 to play in the half.  That’s when the rally started for West Central.  The Trojans ended the half on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to one point, 25-24, by halftime.

Their rally continued into the second quarter.  Quick steals and better three-point shooting led to a big run in the third quarter.  West Central outscored McCook Central/Montrose 26-9 to build a 50-34 lead going into the fourth quarter.  The Fighting Cougars tried to get their way back into the game, but only got as close as 11 points, 57-46, with 1:35 to play in the game.

Cambell Fischer had 16 points, seven rebounds, and four steals.  Alexa Borns added 14 points and two rebounds.  Molly Anderson ended with 10 points, three rebounds, and two assists.  Jazelle Jarding also had 10 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two steals.  Molli Thornton had six points, nine steals, and two assists.
