Lakota Tech Hits Late Three to Beat West Central Boys

A made three-pointer with under :30 to play was the game-winning shot for Lakota Tech against West Central at the Sacred Hoops Classic in Mitchell on Saturday, January 7th.  Lakota Tech finished the classic with a 51-49 win over the Trojans.

West Central had a lead for the middle portion of the game.  After the Trojans trailed 11-10 at the end of the first quarter, they outscored Lakota Tech 12-5 for a 22-16 halftime lead.  The Trojans extended the lead to 30-21 with 6:15 to play in the third quarter.  Lakota Tech cut the lead to 30-29 midway through the quarter, but West Central ended the quarter on a 9-2 run for a 41-32 lead heading into the fourth quarter.

Lakota Tech slowly chipped away at the lead and eventually took the lead, 48-46, with about 1:30 to play.  Carter Schmeichel made a three-pointer with 1:05 to play to give the lead back to the Trojans, 49-48.  Lakota Tech, however, made the game-winning three with :27 to go for the 51-49 win.

West Central shot 41% (19-46) from the field, 25% (3-12) from the three-point line, and 62% (8-13) from the free-throw line.  Lakota Tech was 43% (20-46) overall, 33% (7-21) from three-point area, and 4-6 from the free-throw line.

Dylan Stromer, named the MVP for the Trojans, had 16 points and three rebounds.  Owen Heath had eight points and seven rebounds.  Brodie Herr finished with seven points.  Schmeichel had five points and five rebounds, and Erik Seten also had five points.
