The Tri-Valley Mustangs made the trip to Vermillion to face the Tanagers on Thursday, September 10th. The Tanagers took the win in straight sets by scores of 25-15, 25-19, and 25-12.
Vermillion led start to finish in the first set. They started with a 4-2 lead and doubled that advantage to four at 9-5. The Mustangs cut the lead down by a point, 11-8, but that was as close as they would get. The Tanagers got that point back at 18-14 and then ended the set on a 7-1 run for the 25-15 win.
After the Tanagers held a slim 3-2 lead to start the second set, Tri-Valley tied the score 5-5. The Mustangs then took an 8-7 lead, but Vermillion scored three straight to go back in front 10-8. They continued their run to build a 14-9. The Mustangs pulled within three points, 17-14, but Vermillion held them off for a 25-19 victory.
Vermillion rode the momentum at the end of set two into set three. They started with a 4-1 lead and continued to roll from there. The Tanagers extended that lead all the way to 13 points, 20-7. Each team scored five more points as Vermillion took the win 25-12.
