Third Quarter Run Gives Tri-Valley Win over Dell Rapids Girls

A big third-quarter run was the difference for the Tri-Valley Mustangs in a 48-41 win over the Dell Rapids Quarriers on Thursday, February 6th.

After a 6-6 tie in teh first quarter.  Tri-Valley went on a 4-0 run to take a 10-6 lead.  The Quarriers responded with a 5-0 run to end the quarter for an 11-10 lead.  The game was tied 13-13 early in the second quarter before Dell Rapids went on a 6-0 run for a 19-13 lead.  The Quarriers ended the half leading 23-17.

The Mustangs started the second half with a 6-0 run to tie the game 23-23.  They continued the run to a 29-23 lead.  Tri-Valley’s lead grew to 34-26 by the end of the third quarter.  The Quarriers cut the lead in half, 38-34, early in the fourth quarter, but the Mustangs pushed the lead to 45-38.  Tri-Valley was able to hold off Dell Rapids for the win.

Tri-Valley finished the game shooting 29% (15-52) overall, 39% (7-18) from the three-point area, and 55% (11-20) from the free-throw line.  Dell Rapids shot 32% (15-47) from the field overall, 29% (6-21) on three-point shots, and 5-9 from the free-throw line.

Mattie Huwe finished with 15 points, five rebounds, six assists, and three steals.  Izzy Davey added eight points, three rebound, and three steals.  Madelyn Wenzel had seven points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals.  Hailey Sorenson ended with five points, three rebounds, and three steals.
