Parkston Steals Late Lead to Beat Tri-Valley Boys

The Parkston Trojans took the lead late after giving up an 11-point advantage and held for a 40-36 win over the Tri-Valley Mustangs on Friday, December 9th.

The Trojans took a slim 10-9 lead after the first quarter.  They increased the lead, but only by a point, to 22-20 at halftime.  Parkston then held Tri-Valley to only three points in the third quarter and led 32-23 heading into the fourth.  After making the first basket of the fourth quarter, the Trojans led 34-23.  The Mustangs then went on an 11-0 run and tied the game 34-34 with 2:45 to play on a three-pointer by Logan Ellison.  Carter Sorenson gave the Mustangs a 36-35 lead with a basket with 2:25 to play.  Parkston, however, held Tri-Valley scoreless the rest of the game for the 40-36 win.

Tri-Valley shot 27% (14-51) for the game, 25% (6-24) from three-point area, and just 2-6 from the free-throw line.  The Trojans shot 33% (16-48) from the field, 14% (2-14) from three-point area, and 33% (6-18) from the free-throw line.

Noah Haynes had 17 points and nine rebounds.  Sorenson finished with five points and five rebounds.  Alex Wingen had three points and seven rebounds.  Trey Johnson added three points and five rebounds.  Ellison ended with three points, three rebounds, and two assists.
