Mustangs Suffer Volleyball Loss to Sioux Valley

The Tri-Valley Mustang volleyball team traveled to Sioux Valley High School on Monday, September 23rd.  The Cossacks took the win in straight sets by scores of 25-13, 25-17, and 25-19.

An early run in the first set put the Cossacks in control.  After a 2-2 tie, Sioux Valley went on an 8-0 run for a 10-2 lead.  Tri-Valley scored the next five points to cut the lead to 10-7.  The Cossacks then pushed the lead to seven, 14-7.  They continued to lead by seven, 18-11, before winning 25-13.

The Mustangs took an early 3-1 lead to start the second set, but the Cossacks went on another early run.  The Cossacks went on a 9-0 run to go in front 10-3.  Tri-Valley got within four points at 10-6 and 12-8, but that was as close as they could get.  The Cossacks extended the lead to 10 points, 21-11.  The Mustangs went on a 5-0 run to cut the lead in half, 21-16.  Sioux Valley would finish the set on a 4-1 run.

The third set was close throughout most of it.  The score was tied early at 2-2 and 5-5.  Sioux Valley grabbed a 9-5 lead, but Tri-Valley rallied to tie the set at 12-12.  The score was tied 15-15 and 18-18.  The Cossacks went on a 4-0 run to lead 22-18 and then finished the match on a 3-1 run for a 25-19 win.

Madelyn Wenzel finished with 10 kills and seven digs.  Emery Pearson had eight kills, and Tori O’Toole added seven kills.  Abigail Wagner had 14 set assists and five digs.  Emily Wenzel had seven set assists and four digs, while Brooke Steineke had eight digs.
