Hot Start, but Chilly Finish for Mustang Boys

The Tri-Valley Mustang boys started the game off hot, but the shooting cooled off against Elkton-Lake Benton on Monday, January 6th.  The Elks overcame a fast start by the Mustangs for a 69-53 victory.

The Mustangs made four three-point in the opening quarter alone and built a 19-14 lead by quarter’s end.  They would make only four more three-point attempts the rest of the game.  Elkton-Lake Benton outscored Tri-Valley 15-8 in the second quarter for a 29-27 lead at halftime.

The Elks, on the other hand, caught fire in the third quarter.  They doubled their score in just the third quarter alone and took a 58-39 lead into the fourth quarter.  Tri-Valley did get within 10-to-12 points a couple of times in the second half, but couldn’t catch fire long enough to get a sustained rally going.
