The Tri-Valley high school baseball team built an early lead in their super regional game against Sioux Falls Christian on Tuesday, May 19th, but it wasn’t enough as Sioux Falls Christian rallied for a 14-6 win to end the season for Tri-Valley.
Cooper Durick delivered an RBI double in the top of the first inning, and Treyson Richter followed with a two-run home run. Tristen Bunde drew a bases-loaded walk, and Tri-Valley led 4-0 before an out was even recorded. Brody Dybvig also drew a bases-loaded walk later in the inning for a five-run top of the first. Sioux Falls Christian got a run back in the bottom of the first and added another in the bottom of the second to make the score 5-2. Dybvig took another bases-loaded walk in the top of the third to put Tri-Valley ahead by four, 6-2.
That’s when things changed and momentum shifted to Sioux Falls Christian. With two outs in the bottom of the fourth inning, Sioux Falls Christian scored seven runs to take a 9-6 lead. They added four more runs in the bottom of the fifth to extend the lead to 13-6. The final run came in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Richter finished with a home run and two RBIs. Durick had a double and an RBI. Mason Hemme added a single. Dybvig had two RBIs, and Bunde ended with one RBI. Bunde pitched 3 2/3 innings and allowed six runs, all unearned, on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts. Lawson Schneiderman tossed two innings and allowed four runs, one earned, on two hits and two walks with three strikeouts. Reed Smith pitched 1/3 of an inning and allowed four runs, two earned, on two hits and a walk with one strikeout.
Tri-Valley’s season ends with a 12-8 overall record.
