The Tri-Valley Mustang volleyball team won their second straight five-set match, this time on the road in Wagner on Saturday, October 3rd. The Mustangs won by scores of 25-18, 13-25, 25-91, 19-25, and 15-12.
Wagner took the early lead in the first set at 5-3. Tri-Valley followed with a 6-2 run to go in front 9-7. The Red Raiders tied the score 10-10, and that is when the Mustangs built a lead they wouldn’t lose. Tri-Valley went on a 7-2 run to go ahead 17-12 to lead them to a 25-18 win. Wagner opened the second set with a quick 4-0 ru. The Mustangs pulled within a point at 7-6 and stayed within two points at 12-10 and 14-12. Wagner then had a 5-0 to extend the lead to 19-12 and then finished the set on a 6-1 run for a 25-13 victory.
The Red Raiders took an early 4-3 lead in the third set. After a 7-7 tie, they went back in front 12-8 with a 5-1 run. Wagner continued to lead at 14-11, but the Mustangs rallied to tie the score 14-14. That run continued for Tri-Valley as they went on a 5-1 run to go in front 19-15. Thy would ride that momentum to a 25-19 win in the third set. Wagner got out in front early in the fourth set at 5-1 and never trailed. They would build a seven point lead at 14-7 and continued to lead by seven at 19-12. Tri-Valley was only able to get the lead down to five, 23-18, before Wagner won 25-19 to force a fifth set.
Wagner grabbed an early lead 3-2 to start the fifth and final set. They slowly extended their lead to 7-5 and then to 10-7. The Red Raiders were still in front at 11-9, but Tri-Valley would tie the score 11-11. The Mustangs continued the momentum and picked up three more points in a row to take a 14-11 lead. Wagner got within a point, 14-13, but Tri-Valley got the final point to win the match three sets to two.
Brooke Steineke had 22 kills and 17 digs. Emry Jones added 19 kills and 14 digs. Lily Schlueter finished with 38 set assists, 17 digs, and eight blocks. Taylor Nelson had 16 digs and two ace serves. Rowyn Gacke ended with 19 digs.
