Mustang Volleyball Rallies for Five-Set Win

The Tri-Valley Mustang volleyball team rallied to win the final two sets of a five-set match over the McCook Central/Montrose Cougars at home on Thursday, September 30th.  The Mustangs won the match by scores of 22-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-13, and 15-5.

The Cougars took an early 3-2 lead to start the first set.   They extended that lead to 8-4.  Tri-Valley would cut the deficit down to a point, 9-8.  The score would be tied at 14-14, 16-16, 19-19, and 21-21, but the Cougars would finish the first set with a 4-1 run for the 25-22 win.

After both teams traded a point to start the second set, the Mustangs went on an early 4-0 run to grab a 5-1 lead.  McCook Central/Montrose tied the game 7-7, but Tri-Valley regained the lead 11-9.  They extended the lead to 15-11.   The Mustangs turned a 17-15 lead into a 25-16 win.

After an early 2-0 start by Tri-Valley, the Cougars scored four in a row for a 4-2 lead.  They pushed the lead to 8-5 and then to 12-7.  McCook Central/Montrose continued to lead 18-14, but the Mustangs tied the set at 18-18.  The score was tied again at 20-20, but the Cougars finished with a 5-1 run to take the third set 25-21.

Tri-Valley opened the fourth set with a 4-1 run.  They increased the gap to 7-2.  After the Cougars got the score to 9-5, the Mustangs went on a huge run.  Tri-Valley went on a 9-2 advantage to run the score to 18-7.  They cruised to a 25-13 win to force the fifth set.

The two teams battled to an early 3-3 tie to start the fifth set.  Tri-Valley then went on a 3-0 run to take a 6-3 lead.  Each team scored a point to make the score 7-4.  The Mustangs then went on another 3-0 run to extend the lead to 10-4.  They finished the set on a 5-1 run to win 15-5 and take the match.
