The West Central Trojan gymnastics team competed at the Region 1A meet in Britton on Thursday, February 3rd.  The Trojans finished seventh with a team score of 110.325.  Madison won the region with 138.250 points.  Deuel was second followed by Estelline/Hendricks.

Maya VanHyfte qualified for the state competition in Floor Exercise.  The state competition for all classes will be held at the Corn Palace in Mitchell February 11th and 12th.

The West Central Trojan gymnastics team finished third in a triangular in Vermillion on Thursday, January 28th.  West Central finished with 112.3 points.  Vermillion was first with 129.65 points, and Wagner-Bon Homme was second with 129.45 points.

Jenna Schoenemann was sixth in all-around with 28.65 points.  Maya VanHyfte was seventh with 28.50 points, and Olivia Hofer was eighth at 28.40 points.

The Trojans will head north to Britton-Hecla for the Region 1A meet on Thursday, February 3rd.

The West Central Trojan gymnastics had two meets the week of January 17th-23rd.  The Trojans placed third on Tuesday, January 18th at Deuel High School.  They then placed second on Thursday, January 20th at Wagner.

The Trojans finished with 110.100 points at the Deuel quadrangular to place third.  Britton/Hecla placed first with 127.150 points, and Deuel was second with 116.750 points.

Maya VanHyfte placed seventh all-around with 29.000 points.  Jenna Schoenemann was eighth all-around with 28.600 points.

The West Central Trojan gymnastics team finished ninth at the Madison Invitational on Saturday, January 15th.  The Trojans finished with 111.025 points.  Madison finished first as a team with 135.625 points.  Hot Springs was second with 131.625 points, and Vermillion was third with 128.200 points.

Maya Van Hyfte was 22nd in All Around with 29.650 points.  Jenna Schoenemann was 29th with 27.325 points, and Kenasyn Johnson was 30th with 27.175 points.  Olivia Hofer was 32nd with 26.875 points.

West Central will be at Deuel High School on Tuesday, January 18th.

The West Central Trojan gymnastics team had a match against the Vermillion Tanagers in Vermillion on Thursday, January 6th.  Vermillion won the dual 126.9 – 104.65.

Maya Van Hyfte finished sixth in All Around with a score of 28.05.

The West Central Trojan gymnastics team traveled to Deuel for a quadrangular on Tuesday, December 21st.  The Trojans finished with 97.450 points placing fourth as  a team.  Estelline/Hendricks was first followed by Deuel and Pipestone.

Kenasyn Johnson finished 12th in all-around.  Jenna Schoeneman was 13th, and Sophie Cuka was 14th.

The Trojans will be in Pipestone on Tuesday, January 4th.

The West Central Trojan gymnastics team took part in the first two competitions of the 2021-2022 season recently. 

The first competition was the Winter Wonderland event held in Vermillion on Saturday, December 4th.  The Trojans finished sixth with a total of 108.10 points.  The following are the individual scores in Vermillion:

The Trojans will be in Wagner for the Wagner Gymnastics Tournament on Saturday, December 11th.

The West Central Trojan gymnastics team will have five new members that will be joining the 2021-2022 team.  The addition of these gymnasts will give head coach Tricia Smith 14 athletes for the varsity and junior varsity teams.

Last season ended with state tournament qualifications for Averi Schmeichel and Maya VanHyfte.  VanHyfte, a freshman this season, will look make a return trip back to the state tournament.  The year the Trojans have one senior, Jenna Schoeneman.

“The girls have been working hard since the beginning of November to get ready for our first meet,” said Smith.  The first meet will be in Vermillion on Saturday, December 4th.

The West Central Trojan gymnastics team was represented by 8th-grader Maya Vanhyfte at the 2021 State A competition in Watertown on Friday, February 12th.

Vanhyfte competed in the floor exercise earning a score of 8.250.

Head coach Tricia Smith said, “Maya’s routine on floor was great. Averi Schmeichel has helped her polish the routine over the last couple of weeks, with obvious results. All of the seniors accompanied Maya to the meet and warmed up alongside her when possible. This helped her relax and feel more confident. We are all very proud of her and look forward to seeing her progress through her gymnastics career.”

The West Central Trojan gymnastics team finished seventh at the Region 1A meet held at Deuel High School on Thursday, February 4th.

West Central finished with a team score of 108.400.  Deuel won the region team title with 141.400 points.  Madison was second with 139.150 points, and Estelline/Hendricks placed third with 132.150 points.

Jami Bergeson finished 25th all-around with 26.900.  Jenna Schoeneman was 26th with a score of 26.500.  Paige Pilker finished 28th with 24.300, and Olivia Hofer was 29th at 24.250.
