Wood Ducks Ninth Inning Rally Sinks Gamecocks

June 8, 2021 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

For eight innings, the Wood Ducks and Gamecocks were locked in a pitcher’s dual on Sunday, June 6th.  The Wood Ducks were held hitless in those eight innings, and the Gamecocks only had two hits on the board.

But with the game tied 1-1 heading into the final inning, the Wood Ducks finally got their first hit of the game, a bunt single, after the lead-off hitter reached on an error.  The Gamecocks looks as though they were going to get out of the jam, getting two of the next three batters out.  With two outs and the bases loaded, the next six batters for the Wood Ducks reached safely on five hits, and all the sudden the Wood Ducks had scored eight times for a 9-1 lead.  The Gamecocks were only able to get two batters on base in the bottom of the inning.

For the Wood Ducks, Logan Larsen had a double with two RBIs.  Tyler Lundborg had a hit with three RBIs.  Drew Eldeen, Blake Svoboda, and Auedin King all had a hit with an RBI.  Austin Smith also had a hit.  Eldeen pitched the complete game allowing one run, which was unearned, on two hits with four walks and eight strikeouts.

Broc Haldeman and Drew DeMers had the hits for the Gamecocks.  Cam Quigley had an RBI.  Tyler Renken had a no-hitter going through eight innings, but finished the game allowing three runs, one earned, on one hit with three walks and seven strikeouts.  Haldeman allowed six runs, all earned, on five hits with two walks and two strikeouts.
