St Mary Wins Homecoming Game

DellRapidsStMaryFootballThe Dell Rapids St. Mary Cardinals defeated the Colman/Egan Hawks on Friday, September 26th, on Homecoming night by a score of 60-6.  The Cardinals racked up 342 total yards, 272 of those rushing, while holding the Hawks to just 45 total yards, 24 rushing and 21 passing.

Jacob Glazier led the way for Dell Rapids St Mary with eight carries for 108 yards and a touchdown.  Josh Brown had four carries for 98 yards and three touchdowns.  Ben Bunkers also had four carries for 37 yards and a touchdown.  Christian Schnieders carried the ball four times for 21 yards and a touchdown.  Wes Heinricy was 1-1 passing for 35 yards…that pass completed to Brown for a touchdown.  Bunkers also had a 26-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Defensively for the Cardinals, Jared Scholten had eight tackles and one interception.  Schnieders had 7.5 tackles and a fumble recovery, and Leon Maxwell finished the game with 10 tackles and two sacks.

Head coach Ross Flemmer said, “The kids played hard.  They got after it right away.  We had a few lulls, but came back strong.

Dell Rapids St Mary improves to 4-0 on the year.  The Cardinals will travel to White on Friday, October 4th, to take on Deubrook.  The game will be broadcast on Big Sioux Media.

Cardinals Move to 3-0

DellRapidsStMaryFootballThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals football team moved to 3-0 with a 58-14 win over Oldham-Ramona-Rutland in Rutland on Friday, September 20th.  Dell Rapids St Mary out-gained the Raiders 406 yards to 143 yards.  The Cardinals had 289 yards on the ground and 117 passing yards.

Ben Bunkers went 5-7 passing for 84 yards.  Casey Hansen was 2-2 for 38 yards, and Wes Heinricy was 1-1 for 23 yards passing.  Josh Brown led the rushing attacking with 108 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries.  Bunkers had seven carries for 83 yards and two touchdowns.  Mitch Brown had 33 yards and one touchdown on six carries.  Sam Schwebach, Garret Frost, and Christian Schnieders all had rushing touchdowns in the game as well.  Seven different Cardinal receivers had a catch in the ball game.  Jared Scholten had five tackles for St Mary.  Hansen had 3.5 tackles and an interception.  Leon Maxwell also had 3.5 tackles and one sack in the game.

Head coach Ross Flemmer said, “Our kids played hard.  They came out and took control of the game from the start.  The defense played fast and aggressive, and our offense executed well.”

The Cardinals will host Colman-Egan on Friday, September 28th, at 7:00 p.m for Homecoming.

Cardinals Improve to 2-0

DellRapidsStMaryFootballThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals football team won their home opener on Friday, September 13th, with a 60-32 win over the Castlewood Warriors.  Both teams got off to a slow start offensively in the first quarter, but the scoring picked up in the second and third quarters.

Castlewood scored the first touchdown of the game at the 5:13 mark to take a 6-0 lead.  The Cardinals answered back on a Josh Brown touchdown at the 2:39 mark to give St Mary an 8-6 lead after the first quarter.  The second quarter went back and forth as Castlewood scored two touchdowns, and the Cardinals scored three touchdowns.  St Mary held a 28-20 lead at halftime.

The Warriors scored within the first two minutes of the third quarter to cut the lead to 28-26, but that’s as close as they got.  Dell Rapids St Mary scored the next three touchdowns to jump out to a 52-26 lead.  Castlewood scored one more time in the final minutes of the third quarter to cut the lead to 52-32.  The Cardinals put up the final touchdown of the game within the first two minutes of the fourth quarter on Brown’s sixth touchdown of the game.

Head coach Ross Flemmer said, “I was very proud of how our kids came out and played.  Our offensive and defensive lines did a phonomenal job!  The kids played with a lot of intensity and desire.”

Brown finished the night with 17 carries for 217 yards and six touchdowns.  Ben Bunkers also had 17 carries for 125 yards and a touchdown.  Christian Schnieders also had a rushing touchdown in the game.  Defensively for the Cardinals, Jared Scholten lead the team with six tackles.  Schnieders had 5.5 tackles.  Brown, Bunkers, and Leon Maxwell all had five tackles apiece.  Bunkers and Wes Heinricy each had an interception as well.Dell Rapids St Mary will travel to Rutland to take on Oldham-Ramona-Rutland on Friday, September 20th.

Cardinals Open Football Season with Win

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals opened their season with a win over DeSmet/Iroquois on Friday, September 6th, in DeSmet 40-14.  The Cardinals out-gained DeSmet/Iroquois 320 yards to 114 yards.  Dell Rapids St Mary had 272 yards on the ground and 48 passing yards.

Josh Brown carried the ball for 200 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries.  Ben Bunkers had 13 carries for 88 yard and a touchdown.  Christian Schnieders also had a rushing touchdown.  Noah Fiegen had a touchdown catch in the game of 22 yards.  Bunkers also hauled in a pass for 20 yards.

Defensively for the Cardinals, Jared Scholten had 9.5 tackles, Schnieders had 8.5 tackles, Josh Brown had 5.5 tackles along with an interception, Leon Maxwell had 5.5 tackles, and Bunkers had four tackles and an interception.

Head coach Ross Flemmer said, “Our offensive line played very well in the 2nd half, and our defense played well throughout the game.  We need to correct our penalties and turnovers before next week, but I feel we can do that, and we will be able to be a much better team next week.”

The Cardinals will host Castlewood on Friday, September 13th.  The game will be webcast on Big Sioux Media.

Dell Rapids St Mary Football Returns Experience in 2013

DRSM LogoThe Dell Rapids St Mary Cardinals will bring back the whole team from last year’s 3-6 2012 season.  The Cardinals lost two seniors from last year’s team, but those two players were hurt early and did not receive much playing time, thus Dell Rapids St Mary will have valuable experience in the 2013 season.

Head coach Ross Flemmer says, “The conference will be top heavy this year with Arlington and Deubrook being the teams to beat.”

The Cardinals have their bye week right away this season.  Their first game will be on Friday, September 6th, at DeSmet.StMaryFootballPreview-2013
