The Quarriers finished the game shooting 54% (30-56) from the field, 21% (3-14) from three-point area, and 38% (9-24) from the free-throw line in the game.  Dell Rapids also had a total of 46 team rebounds, 16 assists, and turned the ball over 14 times.  Sioux Valley finished the game shooting 30% (22-74) from the field, 14% (6-42) from three-point area, and 77% (10-13) from the free-throw line.

A late fourth quarter rally was not enough to erase an early deficit for the Dell Rapids Quarriers as they fell to the Tea Area Titans 80-60 on Friday, December 14th at Tea Area High School.

Tea Area raced out to a 13-2 lead in the first five minutes of the game.  Dell Rapids went on an 8-2 run to close the game to 15-10, but the Titans scored the last bucket of the quarter for a 17-10 lead after the first period.  Tea Area outscored Dell Rapids 15-12 in the second quarter to take a 35-22 lead into halftime.

The Quarriers cut into the Titan lead early in the third quarter.  A layup by Drew Van Regenmorter with 5:15 in the quarter cut the Titan lead to 11 points at 40-29.  The Titans then outscored Dell Rapids 18-11 over the rest of the quarter for a 58-40 lead heading into the final quarter of play.  Dell Rapids started the fourth quarter on a 12-2 run.  Van Regenmorter knocked down a three point shot from the left wing with 6:00 to go in the game to cut the Titan lead to 10 points at 60-50.  The Quarriers couldn’t keep the momentum going as Tea Area scored 14 points in a row over the next three minutes to extend their lead to 74-50 and put the game out of reach for Dell Rapids.

Dell Rapids (0-2) will host Baltic as part of a girls and boys double header on Tuesday, December 18th.  Both games can be seen on Big Sioux Media.

Dell Rapids Teams Participating in Swier Law Firm’s Sportsmanship Challenge

December 8, 2018 by Matt Larson, Big Sioux Media

DellRapidsSportsmanshipChallengeSwier Law Firm is sponsoring a Sportsmanship Challenge for the 2018-2019 basketball season.  They have asked both the boys and girls teams of ten high schools across the state to participate in this challenge.  If the varsity teams successfully complete the challenge, each team will win $200 (up to $400 per school) to use for team camps, shooting shirts, or any other reason the coaching staff sees fit.

The requirements for the challenge are very simple.  The varsity basketball teams cannot receive any technical fouls during the entire 2018-2019 season, which includes the regular season and any post-season play.  The challenge is also team specific.  That means even if one of the teams at a school fails to meet the requirements, the other team is not disqualified from the challenge.  The other team can still earn $200 if they complete the challenge.

Scott Swier, founder and managing member of Swier Law Firm, came to Dell Rapids High School to explain the challenge to both the boys and girls teams and why they are doing this challenge.

“You can really transfer being a hard worker and being a classy person, win or lose, twenty years down the line when you’re doctors, and nurses, and lawyers, or whatever you guys want to be.  Sportsmanship really does transfer to real life,” Swier said.

The ten schools that are participating in this challenge are Avon, Burke, Dell Rapids, Gregory, Harrisburg, Lennox, Mount Vernon, Platte-Geddes, Wagner, and Winner.
