Sheldon Siemonsma scored 14 of his 16 points in the first half, and Ty Hoglund finished the game with 19 total points to help the Dell Rapids Quarrier boys to a 65-46 win over the Mt Vernon/Plankinton Titans in the opening round of the State A Tournament in Rapid City.
Both teams got off to a bit of a slow start offensively. The Quarriers and Titans combined for a total of 17 first quarter points as Dell Rapids held a 10-7 lead at the break. Dell Rapids found their offensive groove when Siemonsma went 4-4 from behind the three-point arc. The Quarriers led 31-20 at halftime. The Titans were unable to get any closer as Dell Rapids pushed the lead to 44-31 by the end of the third quarter. The Quarriers closed out the game outscoring Mt Vernon/Plankinton 21-15 in the final quarter. 
Dell Rapids finished the game shooting 44% (24-55) from the field, 50% (7-14) from the three-point area, and 67% (10-15) from the free-throw line. The Quarriers also had 41 total team rebounds, 20 assists, but turned the ball over 19 times.
Hoglund led the team with 19 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Siemonsma had 16 points. Zane Schumaker added 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Riley Schmidt tossed in eight points and two assists.
Dell Rapids will take on Winner in the semifinals at 8:45 p.m. ct / 7:45 p.m. mt.
