Elk Point-Jefferson answered right back with an 8-0 to go ahead 41-34 with 3:40 to go. The Quarriers chipped away at the lead the rest of the game, only to have the game-tying shot at the final buzzer fall away no good. Elk Point-Jefferson was able to hang on for the win.
Head coach Jeff Dvorak said, “First off, although she didn’t show up in the stats, Sarah Haak played a great defensive game on one of the best players in our conference – I was very proud of her effort. When you play games like this, it’s hard to win if you have one or two areas that were poor, and we actually had three. Despite that we had a good chance to win because of our solid defense and rebounding.”
Dell Rapids finished the game shooting just 31% (14-45) from the field. They shot 48% (10-21) from the free-throw line and also committed 20 turnovers. Dell Rapids did have a 39-30 rebounding edge over the Huskies.
Arial Hoffman finished the game with 14 points and three assists. Emma Paul added 11 points and 10 rebounds. Mikaela Stofferahn added seven points and pulled down 15 rebounds.
Dell Rapids falls to 3-3 overall on the year, and 2-1 in the Dak-12. The Quarriers will travel to Garretson and take on the Blue Dragons, a Region 3A foe.
