Bulldog Girls Suffer Loss at Huron Classic

The De Smet Bulldog girls basketball team had a 12 point lead in the second quarter, but the Sanborn Central-Woonsocket Blackhawks rallied in the second half to get a 48-45 win over the Bulldogs in the Huron Classic on Friday, December 29th.

The Bulldogs held a two-point lead, 11-9, at the end of the first quarter.  They extended that lead to 12 points, 26-14, with 3:56 to play in the first half.  The Blackhawks cut the lead to 28-20 at halftime.  Sanborn Central-Woonsocket started the third quarter on an 8-0 run, and tied the game 28-28 with 6:39 to play in the quarter.  The teams went back and forth, and De Smet held a 37-35 lead going into the fourth quarter.  De Smet was able to push the lead to 43-39 with 2:07 remaining in the game, but the Blackhawks finished the game on a 9-2 run for the 48-45 win.

The Bulldogs shot 33% (16-48) overall in the game, 28% (5-18) on three-point attempts, and 53% (8-17) from the free-throw line.  The Blackhawks shot 30% (13-43) overall, 25% (5-20) from three-point area, and 68% (17-25) from the free-throw line.

Hazel Luethmers had 19 points and seven rebounds.  Alyssa Asleson added nine points and five rebounds.  Mirra Beck had five po8nits and nine rebounds.  Megan Dylla finished with four points.
