The De Smet Bulldogs had a 2-0 set lead over the Clark/Willow Lake Cyclones at home on Tuesday, September 26th. The Cyclones grabbed the momentum late in the third set and won three sets in a row for a 3-2 match win.
De Smet started the first set with a 5-2 lead. The Cyclones tied the score 6-6. The set was tied again 10-10 and 14-14. The Bulldogs were able to get a three-point lead, 20-17, and then take the set 25-19. De Smet got another early lead to start the second set, 3-1. Clark/Willow Lake got within a point early, 6-5, but the Bulldogs slowly built a 17-12 lead. After De Smet led 19-14, the Cyclones cut the lead to 20-17. The Bulldogs, however, finished the set on a 5-1 run for the 25-18 win.
De Smet took another lead to start the third set, 4-1. They extended the lead to 9-5. The Bulldogs maintained the lead through the midway point at 17-15. That’s about when the momentum shifted to the Cyclones. Clark/Willow Lake went on a 5-1 run for a 20-18 lead and then finished the third set with a 25-20 win. They used that momentum in the fourth set. The Cyclones started on a 4-0 run and cruised from there. They held an 18-13 lead before finishing the fourth set on a 7-3 run for the 25-16 win.
The momentum rolled into the fifth set for the Cyclones. The jumped out to a 6-1 lead and extended that lead to 10-2 and then 13-4. They took the fifth set 15-5 to win the match 3-2.
