De Smet Falls Short Against Castlewood in Region 2B

The De Smet Bulldog volleyball team fell short in the Region 2B tournament on Tuesday, November 7th.  The Castlewood Warriors won the match in straight sets by scores of 25-18, 25-17, and 26-24.

Castlewood held a slim 3-2 and 8-7 lead to start the first set.  A run of seven straight points by the Warriors put them in control of the set.  They turned an 8-7 lead into a 15-7 lead.  The lead was then 21-14 before a 25-18 win.

De Smet took the early 3-2 lead to start the second set.  Castlewood rallied to go in front 6-4.  After the Bulldogs were within a point at 8-7 again, the Warriors went on another run.  This time the run was 6-1 to push the lead to 14-8.  They grew the lead to 21-14 before winning 25-17.

The Bulldogs started the third set with a 5-3 lead.  Castlewood tied the score 7-7, but the Bulldogs went back in front 10-8.  De Smet still led by two points, 12-10, but the Warriors went on a 6-2 run for a 16-14 lead.  Castlewood added another point to the lead, 21-18.  Trailing 22-20, De Smet tied the score 22-22 and then scored the next two points to be within a point of a win, 24-22.  The Warriors, however, went on a big rally to tie the score 24-24 and then continue to a 26-24 win.

The Bulldogs end the 2024 season with an overall record of 16-13.
