The De Smet Bulldogs took care of business in their opening round match of the Region 2B tournament on Tuesday, November 5th. The Bulldogs defeated the Wessington Springs Spartans in straight sets by scores of 25-12, 25-15, and 25-22.
De Smet opened the first set with a 9-1 run and cruised from there. They extended the lead to 21-11 before winning the set 25-12. They momentum stayed with the Bulldogs to start the second set as they scored the first 15 points for a 15-0 lead. Wessington Springs cut the lead in half, 20-10, but the Bulldogs took the second set 25-15. The Spartans hung with De Smet throughout the third set. After a 3-3 to start, De Smet took a 7-6 advantage. They continued to lead, but only by a couple of points. The Bulldogs led 12-11, 18-15, and 20-18. Wessington Springs tied the score 22-22, but De Smet scored the final three points for a 25-22 victory.
The Bulldogs will play the #1 seeded Castlewood Warriors in Arlington on Thursday, November 7th. The winner of the match will advance to the SoDak 16.
