Vikings End Game on Big Run to Defeat De Smet

The James Valley Christian Vikings ended the game on a 13-0 run to defeat the De Smet Bulldogs at the girls Huron Classic on Thursday, December 29th.  Neither team had a lead of more than five points throughout the game until the Vikings run late in the fourth quarter.

De Smet had the early 10-8 lead after the first quarter of play.  The offense picked up in the second quarter, and James Valley Christian had a 26-25 lead at halftime.  The Bulldogs regained the lead after a back-and-forth third quarter, 43-40.  De Smet had a 48-47 lead after a made basket by Alyssa Asleson on an inbound play with 4:30 left in the game.  The Vikings, however, finished the game scoring the final 13 points.

The Bulldogs shot 43% (17-40) from the field, 29% (6-21) from the three-point area, and 67% (8-12) from the free-throw line.  The Vikings shot 72% (24-33) overall, 44% (4-9) from three-point area, and 50% (8-16) from the free-throw line.

Hazel Luethmers finished with 24 points.  Jada Burke added eight points.  Emma Albrecht had six points, and Asleson finished with five points.
