The Garretson/Dell Rapids Blue Dragon girls soccer team played two matches on back-to-back days, Friday, August 14th and Saturday, August 15th. The Blue Dragons split those matches to start the season 1-1.
Garretson 6, Belle Fourche 1
Lydia Frerk had a hat trick, scoring three times in the match, as the Blue Dragons rolled to a season-opening win over the Belle Fourche Broncs 6-1 on Friday. Frerk scored her first goal with 36:16 to play in the first half. Malena Qualm added two goals in the first half. The first one came with 31:14 to go. Her second goal was at 14:49. The first half ended with Garretson leading 3-0.
Leighton Kindopp found the back of the net on a rebound with 20:10 to play in the match. Belle Fourche got on the board with a goal with 14:29 to go. Frerk then scored two more times in the second half. She scored with 11:12 remaining and then again at 6:27 for a 6-1 final score.
St Thomas More/Rapid City Christian 6, Garretson 1
A big second half by the Cavaliers and some unlucky bounces for the Blue Dragons paved the way for a 6-1 win by St Thomas More/Rapid City Christian on Saturday. The Cavaliers scored a goal with 32:28 to go in the first half. That was the only goal of the half keeping the score 1-0.
The Cavaliers scored five times in the second half, a couple of those off of some unlucky bounces. Two of the goals were scored off of deflections by the Blue Dragons. The Cavaliers scored two goals in a short amount of time. The first goal came with 33:42 to go. They scored again about a minute later (32:23) to make the score 3-0. Qualm hit a nice shot from the right side over the arms of the goal keeper with 23:28 to go to make the score 3-1. The Cavaliers, however, scored three more times (18:40, 8:30, 1:00) to make the final score 6-1.
