The Dell Rapids 14U baseball team hosted and won a 14U Legion regional tournament Tuesday, July 14th through Thursday, July 16th.
Dell Rapids 12, Canton 1
In the opening round of the tournament on Tuesday, Dell Rapids had no issues with Canton. Dell Rapids scored three runs in the bottom of the first and two in the second for a 5-0 lead. They scored seven more runs in the bottom of the fourth. Canton scored a run in the top of the fifth, but the game ended on the 10-run rule.
Brody Konz had two hits and three RBIs. Will Price and Brooks Brende each had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Dawson Bunkers added two singles and two RBIs. Easton Davis also had a double and single with an RBI. Oakley Wolff finished with two singles. Henry Baker had a double and an RBI. Davis pitched five innings and allowed an unearned run on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
Dell Rapids 10, Colman 0
Price pitched a six-inning, no-hitter in the semifinals of the tournament on Wednesday. He allowed just one walk while striking out 14 batters. After a scoreless first inning, Dell Rapids scored five times in the top of the second. They added three runs in the third, another in the fourth, and one more in the sixth for a 10-0 score.
Maddux Amundson had four hits and two RBIs. Davis and Baker both had three hits each with an RBI. Wolff had two hits, one a double, and two RBIs. Brende added two singles and an RBI. Konz had a single and a double. Bunkers and Chace Stroschein each had one hit, and Price and an RBI.
Dell Rapids 18, Colman 1
In the championship game on Thursday, Dell Rapids and Colman faced off again. Dell Rapids started the game with three runs in the top of the first. Each team scored a run in the second inning for a 4-1 score. Dell Rapids then put together back-to-back big innings scoring seven in the top of the third and six in the fourth for a 17-1 lead. They added one more run in the top of the fifth.
Konz had four hits and three RBIs. Davis finished with three hits and an RBI. Bunkers had a double and single with three RBIs. Wolff had two doubles with an RBI. Price ended with a double and three RBIs. Baker added a single and two RBIs. Stroschein and Amundson each had a single with an RBI. Brende also had a single.
Bunkers pitched four innings and allowed an unearned run on a hit and six walks with seven strikeouts. Konz tossed an inning and allowed a hit and two walks with two strikeouts.
